Unbelievably we are now in July and that is half the year gone! I promised I would add a regular blog to our page earlier in the year, but time has run away with me.
Well what should I tell you, back in April nearly a quarter of the members of our WI had an absolutely superb time going to the bulb fields and Keukenhof gardens in Holland. We stayed in Amsterdam, and our final trip of the holiday was planned to be a tour of Ann Frank’s house. To our delight though, our final sight seeing was seeing the King and Queen of the Netherlands arriving at the old Palace in Dam square close to our hotel. When we booked our trip we had no idea that we would be in Amsterdam for the party of the year that is Kings Day, a celebration of the King’s birthday, which involves street parties, street food, bands and lots and lots of orange, flowers, clothes and confetti!
And yes we did end up singing the song about a mouse with clogs on in a windmill in old Amsterdam – very loudly.
Apart from going away together all our clubs are doing well with lots and lots of activities. In June we had our annual garden trip, this year to Sizergh Castle, and to keep up the flowery theme we started this month with a trip by a group of members to Horwich WI to watch a flower arranging demonstration. More on that in the July blog, and also in our July News letter. Please do read our newsletters – they are full of information on what we have been up to each month.
